Suggestions Not Showing Over Your Meeting Window

If Hedy’s automatic suggestions appear in your chat history but not as visual notifications over your video call, your operating system’s notification settings are blocking them. This happens on both macOS and Windows. Here’s how to fix it on each platform.

Why This Happens

Hedy generates suggestions in the background and sends them both to the in-app chat and as system notifications. If you can see suggestions in the chat record after your meeting, it means Hedy was working perfectly. The issue is that your OS prevented the notifications from appearing on screen.

The most common causes are Focus modes (macOS) or Focus Assist / quiet hours (Windows), fullscreen video-call apps that suppress notifications, and per-app notification settings.

Mac: Three Common Causes

1. Focus Mode or Do Not Disturb

macOS often automatically enables Focus Mode (formerly Do Not Disturb) when you join a video call or share your screen. This silences all notifications from third-party apps, including Hedy.

How to fix:

  1. Open System Settings and go to Focus

  2. Check if a Focus mode is active during your calls (look for modes like “Do Not Disturb” or “Work”)

  3. Click the Focus mode and go to Allowed Notifications

  4. Add Hedy to the list of apps allowed to send notifications during this Focus mode

2. Fullscreen Video Calls

When your video conferencing app (Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, etc.) is running in fullscreen mode, macOS hides standard notification banners or sends them silently to the Notification Center.

How to fix:

  • Keep your video call in a regular window instead of fullscreen

  • On Mac, press the green button in the top-left corner of the window, or press Ctrl+Cmd+F to exit fullscreen

3. Notification Settings for Hedy

macOS may be set to hide Hedy’s notifications entirely, or to show them as “Banners” that disappear after a few seconds (easy to miss during a call).

How to fix:

  1. Open System Settings and go to Notifications

  2. Scroll down and select Hedy

  3. Make sure Allow Notifications is turned on

  4. Change the notification style to Alerts (these stay on screen until you dismiss them, so you won’t miss them during a meeting)

Windows: Three Common Causes

The Windows equivalents of the Mac fixes above:

1. Focus Assist (Do Not Disturb)

Windows 11’s Focus and Windows 10’s Focus Assist silence notifications during meetings or when sharing your screen. Hedy notifications get caught up in this filter.

How to fix on Windows 11:

  1. Open Settings and go to System > Focus

  2. Under Focus session settings, turn off Hide notifications from apps (or add Hedy as an exception via Settings > System > Notifications > Set priority notifications)

  3. Make sure Do not disturb is off (look for the bell icon in the system tray)

How to fix on Windows 10:

  1. Open Settings and go to System > Focus assist

  2. Select Off or use Priority only and add Hedy to your priority list

  3. Under Automatic rules, turn off “When I’m duplicating my display” and “When I’m playing a game” — both can suppress notifications during video calls

2. Fullscreen Meeting Apps

When Teams, Zoom, Meet, or another video app is in fullscreen mode, Windows treats notifications as interruptions and either delays them or hides them entirely.

How to fix:

  • Keep your video call in a regular window instead of fullscreen

  • Press F11 in most apps to exit fullscreen, or restore the window manually

3. Notification Settings for Hedy on Windows

Windows can be set to hide Hedy’s notifications entirely, or limit how prominently they appear.

How to fix:

  1. Open Settings and go to System > Notifications

  2. Scroll down to the per-app list and find Hedy AI

  3. Make sure the toggle is on

  4. Click into Hedy AI and confirm Show notification banners is enabled and Priority of notifications is set to High or Top so they aren’t pushed below other notifications

Check Your In-App Settings

Make sure notifications are also enabled inside Hedy. This setting is the same on Mac and Windows:

  1. Open Settings and go to the Sessions tab

  2. Under Automatic Suggestions, make sure Send Suggestions as System Notifications is turned on

On Windows, automatic-suggestion notifications appear under the app name “Hedy AI” (used in the per-app notification settings list and as the toast’s source label), with the toast title “Hedy Feedback” above the suggestion text. If you don’t see either label in your Windows notification history, the in-app toggle is likely off.

Good to know: You can use any audio setup (headphones, AirPods, speakers) and Hedy’s notifications will work. The notification system is completely independent of how your meeting audio is routed.
