-

-
Make sure Background restriction is not enabled
Lock Hedy in Recent Apps
-
Open Recent Apps (swipe up and hold from the bottom of your screen)
-
Find Hedy in the list
-
Long-press Hedy’s preview > tap the Lock icon
Why this matters: Locking Hedy in Recent Apps prevents the system from closing it in the background. This is the single most effective step on most phones.
Important: Some phone manufacturers reset these settings after system updates. If Hedy stops working after an update, re-check the settings below for your phone brand.
Xiaomi / POCO / Redmi
Xiaomi phones (including POCO and Redmi) have some of the most aggressive battery restrictions. You may need to change several settings to keep Hedy running.
1. Set Battery Saver to No Restrictions
-
Settings > Apps > Manage apps
-
Find and tap Hedy
-
Tap Battery saver
-
Select No restrictions
2. Enable Autostart
-
Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Hedy
-
Tap App permissions
-
Enable Background autostart
On older MIUI versions: Open the Security app > Permissions > Auto-start > enable Hedy.
3. Lock Hedy in Recent Apps
-
Open Recent Apps
-
Find Hedy and drag it downwards, or long-press and tap the padlock icon
-
A lock icon should appear on the app card
Locked apps are protected from being cleared, even when you tap “Clear all.”
4. Lock in Boost Speed (Optional)
-
Open the Security app
-
Tap Boost speed
-
Tap the Settings (gear) icon
-
Tap Lock apps > select Hedy
This provides extra protection against the “Ultra battery saver” feature.
Note: Xiaomi may re-enable battery restrictions after system updates. If Hedy stops working after an update, re-check all the settings above.
Samsung
Samsung requires several settings to prevent Hedy from being put to sleep. On newer Galaxy models (S25 and S26 series, One UI 8 / 8.5), the paths below appear directly under Settings > Battery. On some older models, the same options live under Settings > Battery and device care > Battery.
If your session stops mid‑recording after about 10 minutes on a Galaxy phone, this is the section to follow — and the steps below must all be applied. Setting Hedy’s battery profile to “Unrestricted” on its own is not always enough: Samsung also keeps separate Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps lists that can stop the app independently, so those need to be checked too.
1. Set Hedy to Unrestricted
-
Settings > Apps > Hedy > Battery
-
Set to Unrestricted
2. Confirm Hedy Is Not in “Sleeping Apps”
-
Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > Sleeping apps
-
If Hedy is listed, long‑press it and tap Remove
3. Confirm Hedy Is Not in “Deep Sleeping Apps”
-
Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > Deep sleeping apps
-
If Hedy is listed, long‑press it and tap Remove
Apps in this list are completely blocked from background work, even if Battery is set to Unrestricted. Removing Hedy from here is the single most important step.
4. Add Hedy to “Never Sleeping Apps”
-
Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > Never sleeping apps
-
Tap + and select Hedy
This is the strongest protection on Samsung — apps in this list are exempt from the sleeping/deep‑sleeping system regardless of how long they sit unused.
5. Turn Off “Put Unused Apps to Sleep”
-
Settings > Battery > Background usage limits
-
Toggle Put unused apps to sleep off — or make sure Hedy is in Never sleeping apps so it’s exempt
6. Power Saving — Off, or Add Hedy as an Exception
-
Settings > Battery > Power saving — turn it off
-
If Power saving must stay on, open the Power saving settings and look for an exceptions or “Apps to keep on” list, then add Hedy
7. Allow Hedy When Data Saver Is On
-
Settings > Connections > Data saver
-
Make sure Hedy is allowed to use data when Data saver is on
If Data saver blocks Hedy mid‑session, the live transcript upload can fail — and the app may shut the session down to clean up.
Belt and Suspenders
These don’t directly fix the 10‑minute cutoff, but they help on long sessions and after firmware updates:
Adaptive battery:
-
Settings > Battery > More battery settings
-
Disable Adaptive battery
Auto optimization:
-
Settings > Battery and device care
-
Tap the three‑dot menu (⁝) > Automation
-
Disable Auto optimization
Lock in Recent Apps:
-
Open Recent Apps
-
Long‑press Hedy > tap Lock this app
Warning: Some users have reported that Samsung re‑enables restrictions or moves apps back into Sleeping after a firmware update (Android security patches, One UI rollouts). It’s worth re‑checking this section after every system update.
If Sessions Still Cut Off
If you’ve applied every step above and Hedy still stops mid‑session:
-
Was the screen off during the cutoff? As a quick diagnostic, try the same length of session with the screen kept on. If the cutoff disappears, the system’s idle handling is involved and you may need to keep the screen on for long sessions.
-
Was the phone on charge? Battery savers behave very differently when plugged in. Try a long session while charging to see whether the cutoff is battery‑related.
-
Are you on the latest version of Hedy? Open the Play Store and make sure no update is pending.

OnePlus
OnePlus phones have severe background limits that can also reset after firmware updates.
1. Disable Battery Optimization
-
Settings > Apps > (gear icon) > Special Access > Battery Optimization
-
Switch filter to All apps
-
Find Hedy > select Don’t optimize
2. Disable Advanced Optimization
-
Settings > Battery > Battery optimization
-
Tap the three-dot menu > Advanced optimization
-
Disable Deep optimization (or “Adaptive Battery”)
-
Disable Sleep standby optimization
Deep optimization is the main app killer on OnePlus. Disabling it is critical for Hedy to work properly.
3. Lock in Recent Apps
- Open Recent Apps > long-press Hedy > tap Lock
Warning: OnePlus may randomly revert the “Don’t optimize” setting. Locking Hedy in Recent Apps helps prevent this.
Oppo / Realme

Google Pixel / Stock Android
Pixel phones generally handle background apps well, but you should still check these settings:
-
Settings > Apps > Hedy > Battery
-
Make sure Background restriction is not enabled
-
Set battery usage to Unrestricted
Final Checks
-
Restart your device after making all changes
-
Start a Hedy session and verify it keeps running with the screen off for 5+ minutes
-
After any system update, re-check all settings above for your phone brand
Troubleshooting tip: If issues persist, disable any third-party battery saver or “RAM boost” apps. These can conflict with the system settings above. For more device-specific help, visit dontkillmyapp.com.
