Combine two separate Hedy sessions into one comprehensive transcript with merged audio and AI-powered insights.

What is Merge Sessions?

The Merge Sessions feature allows you to combine two separate recording sessions into a single, unified session. This is perfect for meetings that were accidentally split (for example, when transcription stopped mid-session and you started a new recording), multi-part conversations, or when you want to analyze related discussions together. Hedy intelligently merges the transcripts, audio files, and generates new AI insights for the combined content.

Getting Started

1. Open the Hedy app and navigate to the session list

2. On iPhone, iPad, and Android: Tap the three dots menu (⋮) in the top right, then choose “Merge Sessions”. The menu stays in the same spot whichever way you rotate the device

3. On Mac, Windows, and the web app: Click “Merge Sessions” in the toolbar above the session list. If the window is narrow, the toolbar collapses into the same three dots menu

4. Choose two sessions you want to combine

5. Configure the merged session settings

6. Tap “Merge Sessions” to complete the process

How It Works

Hedy’s merge feature intelligently combines your selected sessions while preserving all important information:

• Transcript Combination: Both transcripts are merged chronologically with a clear “[Session Break]” marker between them

• Audio Merging: Audio files are combined with a 2-second gap for clarity (native apps only)

• Smart Ordering: Sessions are automatically arranged by their recording time

• AI Reprocessing: The merged session gets new AI-generated title, summary, and insights based on the combined content

• Chat History: Questions you asked Hedy after either session, and its answers, carry over in order

• Session Notes: Notes you wrote on either session come along too

If Hedy cannot read one of the sessions’ chat history reliably, it stops the merge and tells you instead of producing a half-copied session. Both original sessions are left untouched, so you can try again.

Configuration Options

When merging sessions, you can customize:

• Meeting Type: Select the appropriate meeting category for better AI analysis

• Session Context: Choose relevant context or select “None” for general sessions

• Topic Assignment: Organize the merged session under an existing topic or leave unassigned

Best Practices

• Merge sessions from the same meeting or related discussions for most coherent results

• Review both sessions before merging to ensure they belong together

• Choose appropriate meeting type and context for better AI insights

• The original sessions remain unchanged - you can always refer back to them

Platform Differences

• iOS/Android/macOS/Windows: Full feature support including audio merging

• Web Version: Text-only merging (audio files cannot be combined on web)

• Desktop Apps: Direct merge button in toolbar for quicker access

Troubleshooting

I can’t access the merge feature

• Merge Sessions is a premium feature - upgrade your subscription to access it

• Ensure you have at least two completed sessions to merge

• Sessions currently being recorded cannot be merged

The merge process seems stuck

• Large sessions may take longer to process - please be patient

• If Cloud AI is selected, check your internet connection. If Local AI Processing is selected, confirm a local model is downloaded and available

• Try merging smaller sessions first to test

Audio is missing in my merged session

• Web version only merges transcripts, not audio files

• Check if the original sessions had audio recordings

• Ensure sufficient storage space on your device

Pro tip: Merged sessions are marked with a special suffix in their title, making them easy to identify in your session list. The original sessions remain untouched, so you never lose your source recordings.
